What you should know about Spiders

Spider Control is a must for most homeowners. Seeing a spider in your home is alarming. Many people think they are insects. However, spiders are not insects. They are arachnids and distantly related to scorpions. Their body is split into two sections with eight legs. Spiders are venomous but most breeds are harmless to humans. They live throughout the world so moving somewhere without this pest is impossible.

When Should I Be Concerned?

There are over 45,000 species of spiders and most of them do not cause harm to humans. House spiders are the most common of the spider species found in homes. They are only ¼ inch long and vary in shades of brown. Likewise, if they have dark rings on their legs, this can be a sign that you are looking at a common house spider.

Dangerous Spiders

  • Brown Recluse Spider: These spiders have a dark brown violin pattern on their abdomens and are medium to dark brown.
  • Black Widow Spider: This spider is all black except for a red hourglass mark on its abdomen.
  • Wolf Spider: These spiders can deliver a painful bite. They are great at camouflage. Wolf spiders do not make webs and prefer to be outside as a solitary spider. If any of these spiders bite you, immediately drive to your local hospital. Anti-venoms are available; however, deaths are uncommon.

Spider Control

Spider management starts with outside your home. Firstly, keeping outside stones and logs away from your home is an essential step. These are places where spiders will dwell and make a home. Then, make sure your windows have screens and any cracks that can lead to outside are sealed.

If you are finding spiders inside your home, there are a few things that you can do. This includes vacuuming regularly. Vacuuming can remove spider egg sacks and spider webs. Over-the-counter glue pads can also work for someone that is seeing a small number of spiders in their home.

EZ Pest Control does an outdoor and indoor inspection of your property. We will treat both areas and help you maintain a spider-free house and yard.
